MOTHER OF THE FAITHFUL
HAZRAT SAFIYYAH (RA) bint HUYAYY
Safiyyah bint Huyayy was a princess belonging to the Banu Nazeer and Banu Quraizah, two of the three prominent Jewish tribes in Madinah. However, her father, Huyayy ibn Akhtab, was a bitter opponent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Nevertheless, Safiyyah's heart was destined to change.
After the Battle of Khaybar, she was taken captive and brought before the Holy Prophet (sa). At a time of great loss, he treated her with compassion and respect. Touched by his noble character, she embraced Islam and later married him. Despite the hostilities between Muslims and Jews of the time, the Holy Prophet (sa) always encouraged her to be proud of her Jewish heritage, and to uphold good relations with her Jewish relatives. Their marriage served as a bridge between the two communities exemplifying peaceful coexistence.
Hazrat Safiyah (ra) is remembered among the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat (Purified wives of the Holy Prophetsa). whose lives collectively embody faith, patience, and devotion. In her own example, her generosity and wisdom stand as part of that blessed legacy.
