THE REVIVAL OF RELIGION
by
HAZRAT MIRZA TAHIR AHMAD
Head of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam
(Translation in French)
This is the text of an address delivered by the Head of the Ahmadiyyat Movement in Islam to the effect that religions have always been revived through divine intervention. Reform is needed when man falls a prey to materialism and God appoints a man as Reformer to reclaim mankind and to make man return to His ways. This has been the pattern which has marked the history of mankind.
To avoid that any difference of opinion among the Muslims create a wrong impression, the author enumerates those fundamental beliefs shared commonly by Muslims of all denominations. Yet in spite of this common belief, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community differ from the rest of the Muslims on the question of the revival of Islam. Ahmadis differ from the rest of the Muslims on the interpretation of the prophecy about the promised advent of Christ. He gives the concept of the non-Ahmadis on the question and goes on to prove that the Ahmadiyya interpretation is the correct one, that is these prophecies should not be interpreted in a literal sense. The Ahmadiyya philosophy of the revival of religions is the only one supported by history. Reformers were never men who descended actually from heaven, but were ordinary human beings who, together with their disciples preached peacefully and succeeded in spite of all persecutions to which they were submitted. The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement was divinely commissioned and his anchor sheet was the Holy Quran which supports the tradition of religious revival.
